Circle Launches Next Evolution of CCTP to Enable Fast Cross-Chain Settlement for Crypto Capital Markets

Developers can integrate CCTP V2 to deliver secure cross-chain USDC transfers that settle in seconds

NEW YORK, March 11, 2025 —  Circle Internet Group, Inc. today announced the launch of Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol V2 (CCTP V2), empowering developers to deliver frictionless and secure USDC transfers between blockchains with “faster-than-finality” settlement and enhanced smart contract composability that reduces transaction settlement time to seconds compared to an average of 13-19 minutes for a typical blockchain transaction from Ethereum and it’s Layer 2 (L2) blockchains.

Launched in April 2023, CCTP is a permissionless blockchain interoperability solution designed to facilitate the seamless transfer of digital assets across different blockchains. Since its inception, CCTP has facilitated more than $36B in transaction volume. Now, with a new set of smart contracts and APIs, CCTP V2 builds on the success and features of CCTP V1.

CCTP V2’s new Fast Transfer feature enables cross-chain transactions from Ethereum and its L2 blockchains to settle in seconds. CCTP V2 also retains support for the existing cross-chain USDC transfer speeds offered by CCTP V1, known as Standard Transfer, which settles transactions according to a blockchain’s standard finality time. Transactions using Fast Transfer will incur an onchain fee in real time.

CCTP V2 also introduces Hooks, an additional feature that allows developers to automate post-transfer actions on the destination blockchain. This unlocks new possibilities for seamless, programmable cross-chain experiences.

CCTP V2 tackles key challenges in cross-chain interoperability, liquidity fragmentation and the complexity of transactions constrained by block finality times. Developers using CCTP V2 benefit from:

  • Maximum capital efficiency: Allows for secure 1:1 USDC cross-chain transfers through a native burn-and-mint process—eliminating the need for liquidity pools or third-party fillers.
  • Secure transfers: Every cross-chain transfer is validated by Circle, enabling funds to move safely and reliably across supported blockchains.
  • Open composability: Automates post-transfer transactions with Hooks for frictionless cross-chain deposits, asset swaps, purchases, and treasury management.
  • Seamless extensibility: As a foundational building block, CCTP V2 integrates easily into apps, bridges, exchanges, wallets, and smart contracts.

"The introduction of CCTP V2 reduces the barriers that have hindered the fluid movement of digital dollars between supported blockchains,” said Nikhil Chandhok, Chief Product Officer at Circle. “Together with Fast Transfer, Standard Transfer and Hooks, CCTP V2 gives developers greater flexibility to tailor cross-chain transactions to their specific needs and unlocks low-latency use cases in crypto capital markets, effectively abstracting away cross-chain complexities for developers and their users.”

CCTP V2 is now available for developers on Avalanche, Base, and Ethereum with more blockchains expected to be supported throughout this year. CCTP V1 will remain available on 11 blockchains.

Leading blockchain infrastructure providers that have already integrated CCTP V2 include: CCTP.Money, Interport, LI.FI, Mayan, Socket, and Wormhole with more integrations expected in the coming weeks.
