Shaping the Future of Money: Circle’s 2024 Milestones and Vision for 2025

As we close the chapter on 2024, Circle continues to stand proudly at the forefront of financial innovation. We are steadfast in our mission to build the world’s largest stablecoin network that sets the standard for global, instant, low-cost, and compliant money movement. With strategic market expansions and new products reinforcing Circle’s leadership, 2024 was a landmark and transformative year for Circle.

2024: A Year of Expansion and Innovation

USDC continued its growth with remarkable momentum throughout 2024 to ring in 2025 with over $45 billion in circulation, reaching 78% YoY1 growth in circulation and achieving over $18 trillion in USDC transacted to date.2

Available in over 180 countries, USDC is the world’s largest regulated stablecoin that supports a diverse range of use cases—from cross-border payments, to enabling crypto capital markets, to delivering humanitarian aid. Its speed, transparency, and efficiency make it a trusted solution for transferring value anywhere in the world.

The adoption of USDC has also soared. With consumers embracing digital payments and traditional financial services gearing towards an onchain economy, the number of wallets holding at least $10 USDC has nearly doubled, reaching nearly 4 million wallets, over the past 2 years.

Read our State of the USDC Economy 2025 report for more on how USDC sets the standard for better, faster, and more inclusive global commerce.

Building a Trusted, Interoperable, and Global Stablecoin Network

The Circle platform sets the global standard for money movement. With USDC’s steady expansion to 16 blockchains and EURC’s availability on new blockchains like Base, we continue to focus on providing regulated stablecoins that pave the way for globally accessible payments and financial services.

Our developer services like Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) and Programmable Wallets enable builders to create secure and scalable apps that interoperate across blockchains. By fostering trust and accessibility through permissionless protocols and SOC 2-certified wallet infrastructure, Circle provides a stable foundation for building next-generation apps that drive real-world impact.

USDC and EURC’s multi-chain expansion

USDC’s steady launch across multiple chains has been a key pillar of our progress. This year, we introduced native USDC to new ecosystems like Sui, ZKsync, and Celo. On these three newest blockchains alone, over $303 million in native USDC has been minted to date, underscoring the growing developer demand for regulated stablecoins.

Additionally, we also expanded support for EURC, our euro stablecoin, on Base. Launched immediately after achieving compliance with the European Union’s landmark Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework, its growth to €32.6 million showcases its potential as a solution for FX and payments in the onchain economy.

In 2024, we also prioritized building for the future and launched Bridged USDC Standard to establish forward-looking interoperability for USDC, providing a standardized approach to launching bridged USDC across EVM-compatible blockchains. Bridged USDC Standard was widely embraced by developers, gaining 33 blockchain implementations with over $109 million in bridged USDC in 2024 alone.

Expanding access to USDC

Throughout 2024, USDC’s global expansion entered critical markets, providing new opportunities for financial inclusion.

In Brazil and Mexico, USDC has unlocked access to digital dollars for millions by integrating with leading banks and national payment systems like PIX and SPEI. In Brazil, partnerships with BTG Pactual and Nubank have drastically reduced the time it takes to access USDC – from days to just minutes. In Mexico, integration with SPEI has similarly streamlined access, making USDC faster and more affordable for anyone transacting across borders.

We’ve also added new tools to help developers enable access to USDC for their users through USDC Access, which makes it easier than ever to add USDC onramps into apps. Additionally, USDC.com and the USDC Finder have become valuable resources for app builders and end users to navigate how to access USDC in the open market.

Empowering developers with USDC, CCTP and Programmable Wallets

In order to foster a financial ecosystem that can reap the maximum benefits that USDC brings, Circle continuously provides developers—from entrepreneurs creating innovative apps to enterprises streamlining operations—with tools and resources to unlock the potential of blockchain to build the next generation of financial apps.

Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) enables secure, near-instant transfer of USDC between blockchains with maximal capital efficiency, minimizing fragmentation and providing seamless USDC interoperability across supported blockchains. In 2024, CCTP added support for 3 new additional chains: Solana, Aptos, and Sui–exponentially increasing the ways for new flows of USDC liquidity and growth across chains. Since its inception in 2023, CCTP has processed more than $20 billion in USDC transfers.

Programmable Wallets, which provides developers with an easy way to embed wallets within their apps, launched support for 2 new blockchains: Solana and Arbitrum. With both blockchains boasting fast transaction times, Arbitrum, an L2 chain on Ethereum, significantly increases the scalability of the Ethereum network, while Solana unlocked a brand new ecosystem for builders using the Circle platform. These expansions allow builders to create multi-chain experiences at scale, with minimal costs.

Beyond ensuring our stablecoins comply with leading jurisdictional requirements, we expanded our product offering by launching a cutting-edge compliance solution for Programmable Wallets. Compliance Engine sets new industry standards for simplifying onchain regulatory adherence and facilitating compliant onchain transactions. In addition to helping businesses meet legal standards, this important launch underscores our belief that robust regulatory frameworks and compliance solutions are essential for the mainstream adoption of stablecoins.

On Track for 2025

Stablecoins are set to transform the global financial system, with mounting evidence signaling a profound shift already underway. As highlighted in a16z’s State of Crypto Report 2024, “stablecoins have found product-market fit,” with activity surging even amid market fluctuations.

Circle remains steadfast in our mission to lead the blockchain ecosystem in reshaping today’s global payment network, paving the way for the next generation of builders and users to thrive. Speed and programmability will remain at the heart of our product vision.

In 2025, USDC, EURC, and CCTP’s multi-chain expansion will persist as a top priority, as we build on 2024’s momentum to bring USDC to both established and emerging blockchain networks. We will see CCTP V2, the next evolution of CCTP, come to life. Designed to deliver faster-than-finality USDC transfers across chains, CCTP V2 sets a new standard for speed, security, and customization in cross-chain transfers. This upgrade empowers developers to build high-performing apps and meet demands of instant, reliable, and scalable cross-chain liquidity.

We will continue to develop next-generation wallet infrastructure solutions to meet the evolving needs of businesses transitioning onchain. Modules for Programmable Wallets will allow businesses to easily customize or enhance wallets to suit their specific use cases, empowering enterprises to streamline their integration into the digital asset ecosystem while building applications with improved user experiences.

Alongside our existing suite of products, we are actively exploring new additions that will further enhance the utility and adoption of USDC to benefit businesses, developers, and users, solidifying USDC’s role as the backbone of the digital financial ecosystem.

We invite businesses, developers, and visionaries to join us in harnessing the potential of USDC to create a more inclusive, innovative, and interconnected financial world. Together, we can shape the future of blockchain.
